Day 1 Sun The Georgian capital Tbilisi
Arrival at Tbilisi (mostly in the early morning hours), transport organized by us to your hotel. Your accommodation will be in a nice centrally located middle class hotel in Tbilisi. In the morning we’ll do a Tbilisi city walking-tour to get your first impressions: Old Town, Sioni Church, Fortress Narikala, Rustaveli Avenue. Dinner in a typical Georgian restaurant with beautiful food and Georgian wine.
Day 2 Mon On the Georgian Military Road to Stepantsminda
A ride on the famous Georgian military road to Stepantsminda/Kazbegi in the Greater Caucasus (around 4 hours). Visit to the Fortress of Ananuri, stop at the panoramic platform / Friendship Monument. Stop on the Cross Pass (2395 m above sea level) and an optional visit to the German military cemetery. After that we will continue our trip to Stepantsminda. One and a half hour hike to the foot of mountain Kasbeki at 2200 meters to visit the Holy Trinity Church of Zminda Sameba. Overnight in Stepantsminda.
Day 3 Tue Stepantsminda – Juta
Trip to the mountain village of Juta in Khevsureti, the second highest village in Georgia at 2214 meters. Hike of about 3-4 hours in one of the most beautiful high valleys to the Tschaukhi mountain massif (3680 m) down to around 2500 m. Return to Stepantsminda early in the evening. Overnight in Stepantsminda.
Day 4 Wed Darial Gorge – Mtskheta
Visit to the picturesque Darial gorge where the wild Terek river flows up north into the North Caucasus . We will ride on the Georgian Military Road to the old Georgian capital Mtskheta, an important UNESCO world heritage. Lunch in a typical Georgian tavern.The afternoon will be spend to visit this beautiful site. Overnight in Mtskheta
Day 5 Thu David Garedji – Sighnaghi
80 km trip to David Garedji and the picturesque cave monastery in the semi-desert of Udabno near the Georgian – Azerbaijanian border. Two hour hike along the caves with frescoes made between the 10th and the 13th century. Sightseeing of the monastery, where the legendary monk David the Hermit and his follower Dodo are buried. Snack/Lunch at a deserted spot in the steppe. We’ll continue our tour to the fortified city of Sighnaghi in the wine region of Kacheti in east Georgia. Overnight in Sighnaghi
Day 6 Fri Excursion to Kakheti
Excursion to the wine region of Kakheti. Our first stop will be in Tsinandali on the property of the princely family Tschatschawadse with its beautiful park. The small museum is worthwhile a visit and will show us the life of the 19th century Georgian gentry. Afterwards we’ll go to the Telavi bazaar where we can see the diversity of the region’s agricultural products. Visit to the Gremi stronghold and its beautiful church and 16th century frescoes. We will drive on to Alawerdi, one of the most beautiful churches in Georgia. After that there will be the possibility of a visit to German – Georgian Chateau Schuchmann Wines in Kisiskhevi to do a factory tour and wine tasting . Ride to Lagodekhi. Overnight in a small family hotel.
Day 7 Sat National park Lagodekhi
Visit to the center of the national park in the nature reserve of Lagodekhi. We will be hiking to the waterfall ( an around 3 hours hike to and around 2 hours hike back partially through rocky terrain and some climbing). At night Shashlik and Georgian wine will be waiting for us. Overnight in a small family hotel
Day 8 Sun The weekly cattle bazaar and market of Kabali
In the morning we will visit the impressive and lively cattle bazaar in Kabali. Traditionally this market is visited by different ethnical groups from the region like Georgians, Azerbaijanians, Russians, Ossetians, Lezghinians and more. The market is a trading place for all the goods needed for the life in the countryside. Return to Tbilisi via the Gombori pass. Free time to individually discover the Georgian capital. Overnight in Tbilisi.
Day 9 Mon The Province of Imereti, Kolchis, Kutaissi
Ride to Kutaissi, the capital of the Colchis, located in western Georgia in the province of Imereti. Visit to the ancient cave town of Uplistsikhe and the home town of the dictator Stalin, Gori. Overnight in a hotel in Kutaissi.
Day 10 Tue Trip to Megrelia
Visit to the famous monastery of Gelati and its frescoes from the 11th century.
Tour through the province of Megrelia via Sugdidi all the way to Martvili. It is a lush beautiful region with lots of fruits, palm trees, cedre and a subtropical climate neighboring the Black Sea. We visit a wonderful canyon and have a walk there. Overnight in Martvili in a hotel.
Day 11 We Trip to Svaneti, Mestia
Beautiful day-trip to Mestia in the province of Svaneti. Walking tour in Mestia with its abundance of Svanetian fortified towers. When there are fair weather conditions we can take the cable car up the Hatsvali mountain with a beautiful panoramic view of the mountains around us. Overnight in a friendly guests house in Mestia.
Day 12 Thu Trip to Ushguli – Hike
Ushguli is Europe’s highest village at an altitude of over 2.200 meters that’s inhabited all year round. This place is famous for its fortified towers and will give you plenty opportunities to make great pictures . We plan a moderate hike to Georgia’s highest mountain Shrara through an area with impressive 4.000 to 5.000 meter high mountains. This trip won’t be too strenuous since we will stay at a constant altitude of about 2.400 meters. Picnic along the way. In the late afternoon return to Mestia. Overnight in Mestia.
Day 13 Fri Trip to the Black Sea
Ride from Mestia to Sugdidi. After that we’ll drive on, through the subtropical climate zone, to Batumi at the Black Sea. Stroll along the restored promenade at the beach of Batumi and the old port. Overnight in Batumi or in Kvariati.
Optional: If you book your flight with Turkish Airlines, you may book your return flight not from Tbilisi but from Batumi and win a day. Doing so would reduce the return journey from Batumi to Tbilisi and would give you more time at the sea.
Day 14 Sat Return flight from Batumi or back to Tbilisi by car
Return flight from Batumi with Turkish Airlines via Istanbul. Or car ride back to Tbilisi with the guide and driver to catch the return flight from there. Arrival in Tbilisi around 6 pm. Upon request we are glad to book for you an extra night in a Tbilisi hotel for a small surcharge.
